The Bartender had predicted Race 2 to be a damp squib and Akashvani to be a good homely love story worth a look.  The Bartender was right on both the counts.  

This week Kamal Haasan's Magnum Opus 'Vishwaroopam' is scheduled to be released along with Deepa Mehta's 'Midnight Children',  Debutante Director Avinash Kumar Singh's 'Listen Amaya', K.C.Bokadia's 'Deewana Main Deewana.  Let the show begin.

Shaitan returns, expect David to be similar to Shaitan

Those who have seen Bijoy Nambiar's Shaitan may recall how well Bijoy played with the character of Kalki in the film.  The Bartender expects 'DAVID' to be in the same scale and looks.  

Race 2 not in race for the 100 crore club

Like the bartender predicted, Race to is a dud.  My sympathies with Abbas Mustan and Ramesh Taurani for all the losses caused to the cars while shooting for Race 2

True Blue romance in modern times, a simple yet moving film

Inkaar release on Friday the 18th Jan, 2013, is a movie about the a modern ambitious couple to just couldn't get their answers right.   It is a typical Sudhir Mishra film, which poses more questions than rather answer them.

Beautiful songs ace cinematography learning from old Films

Today's Hindi movies have routine song and dance sequences but rarely do we see a song particularly created for a movie, which blends into the movie seamlessly.

Guru Dutt was one such director who took picturisation of song seriously.  He used lyrics of the song so well to blend it with the Film than none other could.

What's worth noticing in the song is that it blends into the scene perfectly and there is no break in the moment of the film.  Also worth noting are the use of lights by Guru Dutt, you will notice that only the artiste is shown in the light and all else is in shadows.  This type of shooting technique was used by Steven Spielberg in 'Schindler's List' and Quentin Tarantino in 'Pulp Fiction'.  Where as both the movies from 1990's and 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam' was released in 1962 much earlier than I was born.

It's just fascinating to see the song come so bright despite of being in Black and White.

First film of 2013 is as confusing as the title

The first major hindi film to be released this year was Vishal Bhardwaj's Matru ki Bijli ka Mandola.  This much awaited film from versatile film maker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has given us films like Omkara, Makdee, Blue Umbrella, Maqbool, Kaminey and a totally forgettable Saat Khoon Maaf, had generated hyper curiosity among the film buffs and critics alike owing to its mysterious title.
